Cap2015 Project in Cambodia:

The Capacity Building for Sustainable Development in the Tonle Sap Region Project (CMB/02/G81)
(January 2003 to December 2005)

The "Capacity Building for Sustainable Development in the Tonle Sap Region" (CBTS) project is part of the larger Tonle Sap Environmental Management Programme (TSEMP), which aims to promote sustainable management of natural resources in the Tonle Sap basin. TSEMP is composed of three components as follows:

Component 1: Strengthening natural resource management coordination and planning for the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve (TSBR)
Component 2: Organizing communities for natural resource management in the TSBR
Component 3: Building management capacity for biodiversity conservation in the TSBR

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) mainly support Components 1 and 2, while Capacity 2015, UNDP/GEF and RGC support Component 3. Capacity2015 contribution is aimed at "building capacity for sustainable development in the Tonle Sap area through participatory approaches”, and is expected to enable the development and implementation of sustainable participatory management practices at the community levels around the perimeter of the lake for the critical resources of the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve (TSBR). It will likewise provide technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of government agencies and local communities to sustain natural resource management activities. Specifically, it will support training and capacity building of community fisheries officers and relevant stakeholders, support their partnership and support environmental awareness and outreach activities.
